At Kafunta each of the private chalets and the main lounge and dining area overlook an incredible game rich flood plain. Located just outside of the park with the Luangwa River just beyond the plain, this is a fantastic game viewing area. Central to the lodge is the spacious lounge and dining area that has been thatched in the traditional style. A tall old semi-evergreen wild mango tree in the centre gives shade on sunny days. There is a spacious wooden deck above the waterhole that has great views over the plain – in the evening this area is floodlit and provides some great nighttime game viewing.

There is a wildlife hide underneath the deck which is also the perfect place to enjoy a spot of birding or photography during the hottest part of the day. There is also a tree viewing deck which is situated along the river bed, providing a beautiful bird’s eye view of the plains and the Luangwa River. Guests have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal with their family or friends in the privacy of the tree tops.  Next to the bar is the pool and the natural hot spring in the Luangwa Valley. This unique hot tub is fed from a completely natural geothermal source on Kafunta’s grounds. Here you can enjoy pure relaxation while being presented with magnificent views over the flood plain and the Luangwa River. The water is very therapeutic and has an average temperature of 37 degrees. During the cooler nights from May to July this is just the perfect ending of an eventful day in the park. The lodge also has a Wellness Hideout. Tucked away in a quiet and private corner of the Kafunta property you can enjoy some refreshing and relaxing treatments. The little hut is open towards the plain and surrounded by indigenous bush that provides cool shade.
