Kanyemba Lodge is a wonderful family getaway in the Lower Zambezi, only two and a half hours drive from the Capital City of Lusaka. We have stayed there often with our kids – and the very relaxed and easy going pace of the camp makes it ideal for families. Riccardo is the owner of Kanyemba and if he is in camp you will be treated to some wonderful stories over dinner under a giant wild Mango Tree or around the camp fire! Riccardo oversees the food and kitchen and with his Italian heritage you are in for some tasty and excellent meals! Overall a very smooth running and friendly operation.

Catering for a maximum of 20 guests, the lodge comprises 6 stone and thatch “rondavel” chalets, each with their own private deck overlooking the Zambezi River and full en-suite bathroom.  There is also a Family Chalet which includes three suites – each with their own private entrance and en-suite bathrooms, but sharing a large deck area.

Overlooking the river, the restaurant and bar allow spacious & relaxed dining. Meanwhile upstairs, guests can relax and enjoy the library and lounge with a view across the river – the perfect space to while away the afternoon!

A swimming pool is situated on the banks of the river, with built-in benches that allow a retreat from the hotter hours of the day – whilst sipping a G&T and watching the elephants on the opposite bank.

Activities include Game Drives into the National Park, boat cruises, canoeing, fishing, visits to the nearby village and visits to the Banana Plantation next door.

We just got back a couple hours ago from Kanyemba and had the most amazing time! The lodge was just incredible- we never dreamed we’d be eating one amazing meal after another and that every detail would be managed so well. Ben and Cora loved it there and had so much fun going out on the boats and playing in the pool (it really is all about the pool at that age, isn’t it?). The bungalow was so pretty and Ricardo so hospitable. We can’t wait to return and cannot believe we didn’t go there sooner. Now it’s our favorite place on the Zambezi! Thank you so much for the beautiful bottle of wine- that was very thoughtful (though you shouldn’t have as you have already done so much to help us out!). Russ (a self-professed coffee lover) must have had about 30 cappucinos during our 4 days and Cora could not get enough of the strawberry gelato. Ben’s favorite treat on earth are gingerbread cookies and they must have read his mind because they even served those at tea time one day. The Italian starters each night were incredible- a meal in themselves, really. I loved every single thing and can’t wait to go back.

Thank you so, so much again for the suggestion and for your help with the booking.
