Luwombwa is a simple but picturesque resting place. Especially suited for clients interested in Birding, fishing and antelope. It is close to Chikufwe Plain where the airstrip is located, and Reedbuck, duikers, Lichenstein’s hartebeast and Sable antelope are often seen.
Location: Located on the banks of the Luwombwa River in the western half of the park nearer the airstrip, Luwombwa Lodge is further into the park than Wasa, approximately 35km from the gate. Approximately 5 – 6 hours drive from Lusaka on good tarred roads and a one hour thirty minute charter flight from Lusaka.
Number Rooms: 3 chalets, two of which can fit 4 people, ideal for families and the third being a double room ideal for couples
Room Features: The larger chalets have a double bed downstairs and 2 Single bed upstairs. Ensuite with Verandahs overlooking the Luwombwa River. Rooms are very basic but comfortable.
Other Camp Features: Dining area and evening fire and stargazing pit
Power Source: Solar Power. No charging facilities in the camp and no phone reception
Activities: The prime attraction of Luwombwa Lodge must be the river. Unlike most safari river trips, the Luwombwa is a gentle meandering stream heavily fringed with evergreen forest. Birdwatching can be great with African Finfoot, Narina Trogon and Pel’s Fishing Owl all regularly seen, not to mention kingfishers, bee-eaters, sunbirds and ibises. For fishermen a special permit is available allowing you to catch Bream (Tilapia), Barbel Fish and sometimes the much sought after tigerfish. Motor boats and canoes with guides are available at the lodge. Luwombwa also has nearby gameviewing. Birding Day with Ornathologist available on request. Half day visit to the Conservation Centre – especially if travelling with children. This is just outside of the Park. Viewing of the Fruit bats in November/December – about a half hour drive from the lodge.
