The New Puku Ridge – Opening August 2019
Dating back to when I worked for Star of Africa Lodges, and we built and opened Puku Ridge in 2003, it has been one of my favourite South Luangwa Camps. Located in one of the prime game-viewing areas, south of the central part of the part, overlooking a wildlife-rich floodplain and waterhole where there’s seemingly always something to see. Puku Ridge is a collaboration between Chiawa safaris and its new owners, Chichele Safaris, who purchased Chichele Presidential Lodge (we expect Chichele to reopen late 2020) and Puku Ridge from Sanctuary Retreats in 2018.
The camp is being completely rebuilt, yet with a lighter footprint. More than 110, 22-ton truck loads of old cement slabs have already been removed from the Park and many of the old materials are being repurposed. The rooms will be very unique in design with a starbed, private plunge pool and air conditioning for the hotter months. Its general managers, Jason & Michaela Johnstone (ex managers of Chiawa Camp & Old Mondoro for 5 years), are busy readying camp and the Puku Ridge team to welcome your clients in a few months time.
The Camp will open in August 2019 and will operate annually on a seasonal basis from 1st April – 30th November. Rack Rates inclusive park fees during peak season months are USD1000 per person sharing and shoulder season months USD910 per person sharing. Group discounts and combo discounts when booked in conjunction with Chiawa/Old Mondoro are available. Contact us for further information.
