Big Cave Camp sits atop an enormous granite whaleback, with incredible views across the famous Matobo National Park. Big Cave is owned by Dave and Caron Waddy, who are based in Cape Town but spend a lot of time at the lodge ensuring high standards in all aspects are maintained. Big Cave Camp offers a fantastic base from which to explore this inspirationally scenic area whether on mountain bikes, foot or game drives.
Location: Situated 45 kilometers outside of Bulawayo just outside the Matopas National Park in the Matobo Hills area. There are daily flights into Bulawayo from Johannesburg and Harare. The Matopas is also an easy drive from Harare, Victoria Falls and Hwange.
Number Rooms: There are 8 chalets in total including a family suite and a family room as well as a honeymoon suite. There is also a single chalet which can be used for accompanying guides/ drivers/ pilots (this room has no en suite facilities).
Room Features: The design of the lodges is A-frame granite under thatch, which ensures they are cool in summer and warm in winter. Each lodge has an en-suite bathroom and private balcony.
